FIRST POST!!!!111!!1


Greetings, everyone, and welcome to the Mayfly Studio Devblog.

If you're one of the literally single digits of people who've been following me for a while, you might know that I used to have a devblog on Tumblr. I deleted it for various reasons, not least because I didn't have time or inclination to do meaningful gamedev for a while (although most because Tumblr is a terrible place.) However, I got back into gamedev a few months ago and found myself making surprising progress. So, well, why not open a devblog again and see what happens? I can't promise regular posts here, but I'll try to update with stuff I find cool in the projects I'm working on.

I'm currently working on a revival of Unsafe, one of the many projects that were rattling around my old blog for a long time. It started out as an experiment in generating planets using pixel shaders, sprawled into an adventure game that was far beyond anything I could ever have actually completed, then retreated to three different random tech demos none of which were even remotely a coherent experience. I've stripped it back to being a purely space-based engine and reworked lots of the internals to modernize the code, or at least modernize it up 2003-era coding philosophy. The experience has been surprisingly fun. I don't know what it's going to end up becoming, so let's find out together!
